I had a call from Faline’s [Emma’s 2010 foal] owners - who sadly need a new home for her as they are moving and will no longer have land to keep her. She is a lovely pony, her foal photos can be seen on our foals page - this is a photo of her now and what her current owners say about her:

“I have uploaded some photographs though none seem to do her justice. Cannot believe her nature she stands for ages tied up and loves being groomed. So unbelievably sweet for a two year old! I am so sad we have to part with her but it has all happened so fast. Our house has sold in 7 days and we need to be out by the 25th May all done in less than a month! I have her advertised for £400 locally and would be happy to negotiate for the right home.”

Just Emma to Go

We just have Emma to foal now which may be in the next 2 weeks or so. She went in with the mares and foals today now that they have settled with their mums. Her belly is quite low as you can see - touches the grass. She spent the morning talking to Prince through the gate and over the wall, think she misses him having spent the winter with him!

Lottie’s Colt

We’ve had some lovely comments about Lottie’s foal ” Little Cracker” “Super” “Stunning” which is lovely, though we haven’t been able to come up with a name yet so still thinking. He’s a good strong foal and went out for the first time yesterday, when I took this pic but will get some more when the weather is better. I’ve also got his birth recorded from CCTV to upload.

Poppy Foals!

Poppy had her foal at 10pm last night, a lovely bay colt - though I think he may go black like Scotty [his full brother] who was the same colour [although bay and white] when born and he’s gone black.

He’s tiny and was quite wobbly to start, not helped by his little foal slippers [pads on his hooves] but he’s improving and after staying up with him until 2.30am to make sure he fed okay, he now seems to have got the hang of it.

Poppy foaled in our field shelter box as she was stressing in the new stable but is now happily cosied up in there and not in the least stressed now she has her foal with her.

Lottie has a colt, Poppy has a …… pigeon?!

At approx 2.30am Lottie had a super piebald colt, we’re very happy with him - he’s evenly marked with his dad’s [Piper] white nose! It’s been a long 2 nights in the end as the first night she was displaying typical foaling signs - up and down, pawing, pacing, looking round at her belly, in fact everything bar foaling. I camped on the sofa and watched her but by the morning, nothing and out she went grazing normally all day [but being constantly paranoidly checked] then back in at night and on CCTV watch again!

I saw her straining at just after 2am and when I got to her the white bag was just appearing and he was born about 10 minutes later, all well and he fed easily and quickly, here’s some pics taken this morning.

It seems the foaling predictor does work, though her bag had suddenly increased on Sunday so I would have worked on that anyway.

In the meantime, the final photo below is what we found in Poppy’s box and it won’t leave!

Lottie Update

Just tested Lottie again at midnight and the reading has changed again and waxing can now be seen on her teats. The ‘milk’ is now changing from clear straw colour to opaque white so shouldn’t be long now. The colours are not exactly matched but you can see the bottom colour on the strip has changed from bright green to yellow….. could be a long night! Watching Lottie on camera and as you can see it’s all quiet at the moment.

At last! Lottie’s ‘milk’ test is now within the 40 -85% chance of foaling, her bag has changed this morning so looks like she could foal soon. I’ll be watching her very closely now and will repeat the test this evening.

Could do with the weather changing though - it is absolutely foul here today - wind, rain and cold - it’s “sisdisgusting” - to quote a cute little grandson of a good friend!

Emma’s Dad is Show Champion

I was browsing the results of the Wessex Spring Show and was pleased to see that Em’s sire, Waterpitts Elegant Lord was Miniature Overall Champion and Reserve Supreme Champion in what looked to me like a very good field. I remember seeing him when I went to buy Em and he was a lovely pony, though seems he is now gelded but nevertheless doing extremely well!

I did a second test on Lottie yesterday with the same result so will do another tomorrow. Whilst browsing did find an interesting site with foaling signs:
